Keeping Your Massage Tables and Chairs in Great Condition

Massage Tables And Chairs

The single biggest expense that new massage therapists have is buying Massage Tables and Chairs to get their practice started. Because these items are usually expensive it’s in your best interest to keep them in great working order for as long as possible.

When properly cared for Massage Tables and Chairs can last for many years. You can even sell your tables and chairs when it’s time to upgrade if they are in good condition.  Here are some tips from experienced massage therapists that you can use to keep your tables or chairs in brand new condition:

Store Them Properly

Folding tables should be stored in a carrying bag when they’re not being used. Massage chairs should be covered and placed in an out of the way spot. Stationary massage tables that are not being used should be covered and kept in rooms that aren’t too warm or too cold, and the upholstery should be checked regularly. Never store a massage table or chair outside, even in fine weather. The sun can cause fading of the fabric top and exposure to the elements can cause rust or damage.

Wash Them After Every Client

Baby wipes or makeup removal wipes are cleaning products that you should always have on hand. After each client give your table or chair a brief wipe down with a wipe to spot clean and to make sure that no oils or residues are left on the table.  This will help keep the top of the massage table or chair in good condition.  Don’t use harsh soaps or cleaners because they can dry out the material and cause cracks. Gentle baby wipes or makeup removal wipes are the best choice. You can also use upholstery wipes that are usually used in cars.  Always put clean massage table covers on top of your massage table for every client.

Handle Them Gently

Don’t move your stationary Massage Tables and Chairs more than you have to. If you have a portable table make sure that you handle it gingerly and don’t slam it around or push the mechanism roughly because that can cause a lot of wear and tear which can break down the folding mechanism.  Even when you’re using a stationary table you should avoid slamming or banging things into the table. It’s a good idea to have a step available for clients who might have trouble getting up on the table or getting down off the table. That way you can avoid unnecessary stress on the table and make your clients more comfortable.

Your Massage Tables and Chairs are fundamental to your massage therapy business and so it is very important to keep them in good condition as they could be an unexpected cost if they fail.  You will need to buy new equipment at some stage, and there are always new technologies in tables and chairs, but it is best to minimize replacement costs and look after your assets.
